Analysing the problem and then figuring the best way to solve it, whether that is in writing a new piece of code, or developing a clearer policy statement so that others have a better understanding of why something is done in a particular manner.

Mission: Teaching classes in the Historical Interpretation track.
Encouraging exploration in the historic skills of spinning and weaving.
Responsible for student involvement via quizzes and class projects.
Encouraging personal growth of the student in critical thinking, evaluation and assisting student in developing a professional ethics.

Means: In the Historical Interpretation program, I teach the History of Spinning - combined lecture with hands-on experience. Covers the development of spinning techniques up to the invention of the Spinning Jenny (which pre-dates the Industrial Revolution). Also cover the different fibres - both man-made and natural from plants and animals.

Evening class with lab hours on the weekend during Spring Quarter.

Middle Kingdom Webminister (volunteer)

Mission: Maintain kingdom website.
Oversee local area webministers in Middle Kingdom (covering Lower Michigan, Ohio, most of Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, and part of Canada) .
Create/update governing policies for websites in the Middle Kingdom.
Review reports submitted by local group webministers quarterly.
Report quarterly to Corporate passing along any issues raised by local group webministers.
Comprehensive annual report to Corporate giving state of the office and any issues raised during the year, including recommendations for award recognition by Corporate based on various criteria.

Means: Oversight of and maintain roster of warranted webministers in the Middle Kingdom (covering Lower Michigan, Ohio, most of Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, and part of Canada).

Maintain Kingdom website with regular updates, site re-design (when approved), creation/improvement of reporting techniques, quarterly reports to Corporate with a comprehensive annual report to Corporate.

Review quarterly reports from group webministers for any problems, assist with resolving issues/problems for local group webministers.

Create/update policies as needed and help to ensure compliance of Corporate policies with all group websites.

Operational Information Systems

Appalachian Community VNA, Hospice & Health Services, Inc.

Mission: Responsible for computer and network security for the agency.
Responsible for maintenance of multiple computers on internal LAN.
Updated reports for CEO, Financial Manager, and Board of Trustees.
Enforce compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Means: Provided complete computer support for 20+ desktop computers, 20+ laptops and 3 servers. Supporting the full Microsoft Office Suite (2003 version), Windows Server 2000, Windows 2003 Server and Windows NT4.

Trouble shooting for entire building network, including adding new drops for relocated computers and added networked printers.

Created reporting tool (using ColdFusion for data massaging) combining data from two disparate systems, final report resulted in Productivity and Expenditure tracking report used by the different departments and the Board of Directors.

With changes regarding personally identifiable medical history data, had to update/create new security policies for the agency. This included uses for e-mail and password safety.

Created/updated annual reports for state auditors regarding regular off-site backups and secondary accesses to secure systems.

Appraisal: Went from knowing nothing about home health care workings to creating usable reports for tracking both productivity of individual field staff (nurses and home care aides) and tracking expenditures for medical supplies, salaries and wages.

Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc.

The Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. (SCA) is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to the re-creation and study of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. It strives to:

* Recreate the best aspects of the time period: courtesy, chivalry, and honor.
* Study the culture and arts and sciences of the time period.
* Provide a venue for the re-creation of medieval-style tournament combat.

The SCA began over thirty years ago as a theme party in Berkeley, CA and has since grown to over 25,000 members worldwide.
Organization:

The "Known World" is divided into 19 Kingdoms, each with it's own royalty and officers. The international organization is governed by a Board of Directors and is headquartered in Milpitas, CA.

* Kingdoms are further sub-divided into smaller political divisions such as Principalities, Regions, Baronies, Shires, Cantons, Colleges, and Marches.
